14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of
righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the
gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
--
Belt
That which holds everything together.
Truth holds everything together. Without truth, everything falls apart.
Not our truth, but The Truth. (Jesus, “I am the way, the truth and the life”)
Breastplate
Covers all vital organs.
It is not our righteousness, but that of Jesus Christ, as we are clothed in the righteousness of Him.
(The only thing we need to save us is Jesus)
Feet
Shoes on, ready to go.
Readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
We should, “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the
hope that you have” –
1 Peter 3:15
Shield
Not our faith, but the faith that is a gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
We are not to rely on ourselves, but only on God.
Helmet
A helmet protects our head, which is where we store everything that we know.
What is the only thing that we need to know? That we are saved – hence the helmet of salvation.
