6.  Kaftan   [4th Dec 2024]

Oh the fun I had…

Since I don’t know how to make a sash in CLO 3D and since I wanted to give Victoria some dignity, I decided to make her a kaftan. I gave up trying to pose her in CLO 3D and instead created the poses I wanted in DAZ 3D and then imported them. It’s not elegant, but it works. Mostly. Anyway, I Googled for a pattern (‘kaftan pattern free pdf’ – noticing a pattern (sic) yet?) and found this page that had a few:

https://hellosewing.com/free-caftan-sewing-patterns/

I chose the simplest, and that lead me here:

It took a bit of mental gymnastics to translate the instructions into CLO 3D, but I managed it:

(now having access to a T pose really helps)

See how easy it is to drape a kaftan when your arms aren’t sloping?

Next, I dropped her arms so she looked less like a clothes hangar:

It was at this point that I realised that now feeling very pleased with myself, that I had forgotten to put shoes on Victoria … and bare feet isn’t a good look for a fashion model.

That, sadly, wasn’t an easy issue to fix. I could pose Victoria in any pose imported from DAZ 3D, but when I tried the final standing pose, it all went horribly wrong. I’m not sure if this is a recommended fix or not, but I ended up re-importing Victoria with all her clothing welded to her. (She’s not ever going to be taking them off in any case)

This, with a pattern added, is the end result:
